We had something like this -- every morning, at like 6:30, someone was playing super-loud techno. We thought it was our downstairs neighbors, and they thought it was us. Finally, our neighbor, angry and sleepless pounded on our door one morning demanding we turn off the techno.

It was our polish neighbors, in the row-house next door -- it was their alarm clock.

You must be in [comment edited]. I was thinking of checking out apartments in there a few years ago. Now I'm glad I didn't. I'm sorry about the problems you're having.

I'm in an apartment in a house just down the hill by [comment edited]. There have been noisy tenants in the past, but It's usually quiet here nowadays, as long as the elderly home isn't doing construction or landscaping. Since I often work at night and sleep in the daytime, I run "white noise" on my stereo to block most sounds out. Good luck in dealing with this guy.

adrianne:

you've gone above and beyond normal courtesy with the man in question.

escalate it to the landlord, as you're clearly dealing with someone with issues.

Well, he's said that he pounds, in retribution for our pounding. I think it must occasionally be a pipe issue that he hears, thinking it's us.

Is it possible that you have some like pipe between the floors that makes noise, which makes you each believe the other is pounding?
