Ol’ Blue Eyes

Jurvis and I are each taking the day off work this Friday for a three-hour drive to Maine. What is in Maine, you ask? Why, our future kitteh is in Maine. (Don’t ask me how this happened in the kitten search, it just did.)

Our Kitteh

The foster home named him Mickey, which is cute enough, but we’re not so sure that’ll stick as he potentially grows into a twenty-five pound mass of fur. He needs a name that simultaneously conveys his massive power and cuddly nature. Jurvis is holding out for Kerberos (Greek equivalent of Cerebus, the three-headed dog guarding the gates of hell — we’d nickname him Kerby), whereas I’m fond of Optimus Prime.

What do you think? We need a solid name by Friday if we’re going to start training him to use the toilet, which, by the way, we totally are.

I am not much help in this area; if I ever get a pet my plan is to name it Eatey, after what it will probably like to do.

I kind of like Mickey, especially if the cat grows to be meatnormous, because it will look like it was big enough to eat Mickey Mouse and that stretched it out like a big python kitty.

    Congrats!

Kerberos won’t work. Everyone who knows that Jurvis is a sysadmin will assume that the cat is named after a security protocol, and will think that is of questionable awesomeness. I say name it Bernard, especially if it’s a girl.

(IRL, Kerberos is kind of a sweet name for a huge furry cat. Especially if you take pictures of it and caption them with “I CAN HAZ UR SOLEZ?”)

  4. Adrianne Says:

I’d originally suggested Cerebus, but we both agreed the Greek was better (especially for nicknames. C’mon, Cerry?).

So the inspiration wasn’t actually from the protocol, but heck. What do you think about PYTHON?

  5. todd. Says:

Hm. How about something more dangerous? “This is our kitty, Saw-Scaled Viper.”

We just named our maine coon Pookie; which, when you get down to it, is the best name for a cat who will gouge holes in your flesh if you try to rub his tummy.

  7. Ivan Says:

Wow, when did Maine coons become the new gotta-have thing?
    Mine sends her love.

  8. Adrianne Says:

Oh sweet jesus. Pet peeve, “no companions awake at 5am”? I was really hoping this would be like a 4 day kitten phase.

  9. Adrianne Says:

Also, update: we named him Jack the Ripper, after we saw what he did to his toys. I am terrified of this kitten.

  10. todd. Says:

Hahaha. Our cat knows he gets fed when we get up, around 6:45. So he wakes us up at 6:30. Because, you know, that’s awesome. And god forbid we plan not to go to the gym one morning.
